I loved following Majerle when he was playing with Barkley and KJ. And he is still entertaining us.

If you really get into the NFL Draft but don’t want to waste 10 hours in front of the boob tube or a computer waiting for your teams’ pick. Give twitter a try. I found this NFL Draft Twitter today. Not sure if it for real but I am going to give it a try. Also, there seems to be a Steelers, Browns, Bills, and of course Dolphins Twitters as well. Not sure who set them up but if enough people start following them maybe the will start posting.

A lot of bloggers like to comment on whatever is the hot topic in the news for various reasons; I do not. I typically try to stay way from topics like this because I feel that there are already enough people covering it much better than I ever could. That said, please consider the following.
I have been appalled at the initial coverage from many of the media outlets. They must still be hung over on all the Republican scandals. The first day of coverage, in which they didn’t even know the name of the shooter. They where already trying to crucify anyone related to situation. Not closing the campus, no mass email to the student, slow response by the police. I am sorry but sometimes tragic things happen and trying to blame anyone but the lunatic who did the shooting is just plain uncalled for. They are doing the best they can to protect the students with smallest amount of intrusion and I am sure if they could go back and do something different they would. Right now everyone involved has to concentrate on the matters at hand like the rest of the students of Virginia Tech, the parents of the departed, and figuring out all the details of the case. Then once things have settled back down they can look back and see how the problems of the young man could have been better handled, how to better inform students of campus concerns, etc. But no, the media likes to live in the world of perfection using their 20/20 hind sight vision to scrutinize, criticize and blame. The thing to do is to learn from this tragedy and take steps to insure, to the best of their ability, that something like this doesn’t happen again. One coverage I found very informative without the typical blame game was ABC’s Nightline.
The second part of this is the inevitable discussion of gun control and the radical idiots from both sides of this debate. In light of the recent events in which both guns were obtained legally. The current gun control measures obviously are not good enough. Seeing how a mentally unstable person can buy a weapon with no questions asked. That said stupid knee jerk reaction type legislation like the current PA House Bill 760, will do nothing but penalize law abiding citizens and further polarize the issue.

At the Erie Bloggers Meet Up Tuesday, I got talking with someone about Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW). How we got on that topic; I am not really sure. But it got me thinking I wonder how many former PFEWers are out there. So, if you had gone to PFEW feel free to add a comment or two about your experience in Lycoming. Also, beside Esther I don’t think I have talked to anyone in this picture since 1996. So, if you see yourself feel free to say hello or if you see someone you recognize you can tell them you saw them online.

If you get the chance today take a trip up to the Tom Ridge Center at Presque Isle. Northwest Pennsylvania Association of Educational Communications and Technology (NPAECT) is holding its 14th Annual Technology Fair and Student Showcase from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. The Technology Fair and Student Showcase is a celebration of the wonderful technology projects involving students from the tri-county area. The fair is free and open to public, so come and see what the students are doing with technology in their school.

I am currently sitting at Barnes & Noble’s. I was just at Theology On Tap at Brewerie. This is a four part series put on by the Erie Diocese aimed toward young adults. I was pleasently surprised. The turn out, while not huge, filled the room that they reserved which leads me to believe was greater than they had envisioned. Being a long time Catholic I have my personal view of my faith and I had a preconceived notion of the churches view of my faith.
The first speaker in the series was the Bishop, Donald Trautman. The topic was “Finding Faith in a Messy World.” Now as could be expected the initial talk was pretty dull and lecturesc. He had a series of notes and followed them pretty closely. There was then a discussion session with the group you happened to be sitting with followed by a Q & A with the Bishop. This last part was very enlightening. The Bishop was much more candid, at easy, and quite personable. After, a short period silence there where many good questions. I came way from the experience with my faith strengthened and found that churches views where quite a bit closer to my personal views than I had initially thought. I now have a renewed faith in the Church as a whole.
There are three parts left in the series:
April 20th Happy Hours: 9 to 5 speaker is Barb Lindstrom about finding faith in your occupation.
April 27th Just War Theory, Pacifism and the War in Iraq speaker is Fr. Robert Susa about “….find a realistic and faithfully Christian response to war in today’s world.”
May 4th You Think You Know, But You Don’t. What does the Catholic Church teach about sex and love? speaker is Dr. Mary Ann Rivera about “… the complexity and the gift of sexuality and relationships for today’s young adults.”
So, if you have any interest at all, I highly suggest you join the group next week. Sit back have a beer and examine your faith.
